About the Role

Assists in the management of operations in the grocery department by supervising a team overnight to complete stocking and store conditioning tasks. Increases customer confidence and loyalty by promoting and executing consistent and compliant operating conditions. This is a working management position that requires a balance of physical labor, delegation, team building, leadership, planning, and administrative work.

Responsibilities

  • Service (70% of time)
    • Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important, and appreciated to build and retain customer confidence and loyalty.
    • Delivers daily conditions that meet company expectations for on-shelf product availability, freshness, quality, and value.
    • Trains department associates on freshness, inventory levels, stocking, ordering, and cooler/freezer conditioning.
    • Assists customers in finding or suggesting products.
  • Leadership (10% of time)
    • Promotes trust and respect among associates by collaborating, promoting teamwork, and communicating company, department, and job-specific information.
    • Establishes goals for merchandising, sales, and profits and empowers the team to meet or exceed them.
    • Adheres to all local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
  • Financial (10% of time)
    • Completes daily and weekly administrative tasks (communications, online training, scheduling, pricing changes, orders, etc.).
    • Maintains awareness of inventory/stocking conditions and reports discrepancies.
    • Reviews and inspects products for quality and freshness, taking appropriate action with substandard items.
    • Maintains stockroom standards and ensures proper product temperature per food safety guidelines, including documentation of temperature logs.
  • Compliance/Safety (10% of time)
    • Ensures company standards for safety, food handling, sanitation, and productivity are maintained.
    • Adheres to regulatory compliance requirements for food safety, USDA, Country of Origin Labeling (COOL), and Department of Agriculture (DOA).
    • Executes product recalls and withdrawals promptly, ensuring items are secured and removed from customer access.
    • Reinforces safety programs, complies with safety procedures, and inspects for unsafe conditions.
    • Reports safety risks, issues, illegal activity (e.g., robbery, theft, fraud), and customer or employee accidents to management.
    • Ensures adherence to wage and hour policies and cultivates a culture of safety within the store.
    • Ensures all associates have received necessary safety training and Hazardous Assessments are posted for reference.
    • Ensures Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is available and utilized as required.
    • Ensures equipment is in good repair and assists with remediation of safety hazards (e.g., lock out/tag out of equipment).
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain the same.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.
  • 0–3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong customer service skills and exceptional interpersonal, motivational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, compactor, and pallet jack.
  • Proficient with computer applications used in department operations.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED (required).
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Physical Demands:
    • Regularly required to stand or walk on various types of flooring, utilize manual dexterity, talk, see, hear, smell, and perform repetitive movements with both hands and/or feet.
    • Frequently required to reach at waist level or overhead, carry, push, or lift loads up to 50 lbs.
    • Occasionally required to sit, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb up to 30 ft.
    • Pulling requirement: up to 250 lbs.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Exposure to indoor, outdoor, cold, freezing, heated, and wet/humid environments.
    • Frequent twisting of back and/or neck, walking on slippery or cluttered floors, and working with hazardous equipment.
    • Occasional exposure to loud noise, skin irritants, nuisance dust, fumes, sprays, hazardous cleaning solutions, and other toxins.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Goggles, gloves, back brace.
  • Equipment Used: Cleaning supplies, general office equipment, register, pricing gun, scales, scanner, racks, carts, pallet jacks, shopping carts, baler/compactor (preferred), box cutter.

Schedule

Overnight shift.
