Job Summary
The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5+ years of outside sales experience, preferably in selling metals, industrial products, tooling, or technical components into machine shops. They should be comfortable on a shop floor, skilled at building relationships, and fluent in technical terms.
Responsibilities
- Win new business across machine shops, precision job shops, and contract manufacturers
- Own the full sales cycle, from prospecting to closing and ongoing account management
- Walk machine shop floors, sit with owners, buyers, programmers, and engineers, understanding the parts they make and the metal they need
- Manage every account you close, ensuring the customer's voice is heard in operations, supply chain, software, and quality
- Quote fast, follow up faster, and close on the dates you commit to
- Run your pipeline like an operator, not a guesser, keeping track of every conversation, commitment, and forecast
- Travel as needed, in a region or nationally, to build relationships and close deals
Requirements
- Comfortable on a shop floor, able to stand at a CNC, talk to operators, and earn the buyer's trust
- Strong technical fluency, able to discuss alloys, tempers, tolerances, and lead times like a programmer
- Skilled at building relationships, customers should know your name and want to give you more business
- High attention to quality, precise under pressure, and reliable, meeting all commitments
- Able to travel and spend real time in the field, on customer floors, in shops
Qualifications
- Existing book of business in machine shops, precision job shops, or contract manufacturing
- Background selling aluminum, steel, titanium, or other metals into the machining world
- Experience selling tooling, abrasives, fluids, or other shop consumables into the same buyers
- Relationships with aerospace and defense supply chains, OEMs, primes, and tier 1s
- Track record building a territory from scratch
