Outreach Phlebotomist Float

Job Summary

Part-Time: Monday-Friday 8:00am-1:00pm at Salem Hospital. Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing.

Essential Functions

• Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
• Ensures accurate patient identification, quality specimen labeling, processing, handling, and transportation of specimens.
• May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
• Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams, explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
• Works fluently with computer programs and systems, and complies with HIPAA regulations.
• Performs other test administration and specimen collection as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required (experience cannot be accepted in lieu of degree).
• Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License preferred.
• No experience required; completion of a phlebotomy course preferred.

• Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens, including correct tube selection, volume, and stability requirements.
• Possesses good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely, and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects.
• Superior customer service skills, with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients' privacy and autonomy.

Schedule

Day shift, Monday-Friday 8:00am-1:00pm. Scheduled Weekly Hours: 25. Onsite work location: 81 Highland Avenue.
