Outreach Assistant

About the role

This part-time position supports Catholic Charities West Virginia’s food pantry, thrift store, and emergency assistance programs in Hinton, WV.

Responsibilities

• Assist with transportation of food from Kroger and Mountaineer Food Bank.
• Transport heavy items including furniture and appliances for the Thrift Store.
• Support special food distributions throughout the region.
• Operate the cash register in the Thrift Store.
• Run the food pantry and complete emergency assistance applications.
• Determine client eligibility for aid and contact utility companies, pharmacies, and other providers with assistance information.
• Travel as required.
• Maintain, pick up, and organize thrift store donations.
• Assist with special and seasonal events.
• Attend required training and staff meetings.
• Locate additional resources to enhance programs and services.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Outreach Coordinator.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus customer-service experience.
• Ability to work compassionately and positively with economically disadvantaged clients.
• Own transportation is helpful.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
• Comfortable operating a 10-foot box truck.
• Vision, reading, writing, and motor-vehicle operation abilities.

Physical Demands

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds and is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, and use hands to write or type.

Work Environment

The work environment is usually moderate in noise. May be exposed to varying weather conditions due to job-related travel.
