Responsibilities
- Aid in routine examinations and treatments, including cast removal, wound cleaning, and dressing applications.
- Assist physicians in fracture and dislocation reductions.
- Prepare for clinics by reviewing patient lists, preparing ancillary orders, and rooming patients.
- Perform tasks such as casting, splinting, brace fitting, prosthetic application, and walker adjustment.
- Apply and remove orthopedic devices, including external fixators, halos, and orthotic frames.
- Measure patients for grip strength, leg strength, and extremity girth.
- Provide patient and family education on immobilization device care.
- Schedule ancillary services and handle physician referrals.
- Clean rooms, exam tables, and equipment between patients and restock supplies at the end of the day.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- BLS certification required.
- Two years of experience in Orthopaedics with NBCOT certification or equivalent.
- Five years of experience in Orthopaedics without NBCOT certification or equivalent.
Qualifications
- Experience with vital signs and basic terminology from training programs for nursing assistants, medical assistants, and EMTs.
