Orthodontic Assistant Traveling
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Orthodontic Assistant will support doctors during treatment exams and all necessary functions. RDAs are responsible for performing all duties of a Registered Dental Assistant while providing quality customer service and maintaining a professional relationship and positive attitude with co-workers and patients alike.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet and prepare patients for orthodontic care
- Absorb and communicate the orthodontist’s plan of care
- Assist the orthodontist at the chair while they are engaged in any treatment of patients, including bonding, banding, and debanding
- Remove and place arch wires and elastics
- Place separators and brackets
- Remove excess cement and tooth preparation prior to bonding
- Accurately chart computer records
- Take intraoral and extraoral photographs
- Take digital impressions (iTero), panoramic (Panorex), and cephalometric (Ceph) x-rays
- Ensure sterilization of chairs and instruments in compliance with OSHA guidelines
- Provide oral hygiene and appliance care instructions
- Educate patients and parents on oral hygiene, appliance care, and the importance of compliance with treatment plans (elastics, headgear, etc.)
- Ensure patients are comfortable and informed throughout their visit
- Undertake lab tasks as instructed
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of dental terminology and dental procedures
- Familiarity with Sterilization
- Familiarity with OSHA guidelines and procedures
- Experience in a professional environment with direct patient contact preferred
- Previous experience required

SCHEDULE & LOCATION
- Multiple Locations: Potranco Smiles, Marbach Smiles, Castroville Dental, Converse Smiles & Shaenfield Smiles
- Schedule: Mondays, Thursdays 8-5, Saturdays 8-2
- (The assistant will work in Ortho on the days we are seeing orthodontic patients, and on the days we are not seeing orthodontic patients, they will support General Dentistry. This allows for a consistent Monday–Friday schedule (some Saturdays required)). If Orthodontics is scheduled on a Saturday, one weekday off will be provided that same week.)
