Job Description
Facilitates the efficiency of the Operating Room by performing a variety of duties associated with the care of surgical patients, as designated by the Operating Room Manager.
Day shift
7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday-Friday
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Transports patients, including those who have received preoperative medication, to and from the Operating Room.
- Provides supportive conversation to preoperative patients.
- Observes and report unusual findings or changes in patient conditions to the responsible nurse.
- Participates in the positioning of anesthetized and non-anesthetized patients.
- Performs simple treatments and other routine duties of preoperative care, including shave preps of the surgical site.
- Participates in providing a safe, aseptic, and orderly environment for patients in the Operating Room.
- Handles simple/complex Operating Room equipment. Collects and sets up the equipment needed for complex surgical procedures, including the fracture table, pacemaker table, arthroscopy equipment, laminectomy frame, and video equipment.
- Performs non-patient, care-oriented duties, including errand running, as directed by the Operating Room Nurse Manager.
- Communicates effectively with other members of the health care team.
- Affords assistance in the cleaning and preparation of rooms before the start of surgical procedures.
- Checks medical/surgical stock supply levels and stock instrument levels. Places orders with Materials Management and resupplies shelves.
- Checks and restocks each Operating Room suite according to established par levels.
- Reports broken or missing equipment to the nursing manager. Coordinates repairs with Engineering or Materials Management.
- Makes recommendations for adjustments in supply par levels based on usage.
- Works with Materials Management and team leaders with supply procurement including communicating ordering information, receiving logging, and distributing special orders or equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Read, comprehend, and follow verbal and written instructions, normally acquired through the completion of high school education or equivalent educational preparation.
- One year of hospital or healthcare-related experience is preferred.
- Good interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and staff throughout the day.
Physical Requirements & Environment
- Normal hospital environment.
- Exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, and other toxic agents.
- Ability to walk and stand for up to 90% of work time, push and pull heavy weights (including patients), and lift 50 lbs.
- Fine motor control for limited periods to perform patient treatments.
- Repetitive hand movements and grasping.
Pay Range
$20.00 – $26.92
