About the role
Vision To Learn is a nonprofit organization providing free vision care to students in underserved communities. We operate a mobile clinical team that conducts eye screenings and dispenses glasses to students. This role involves providing high-quality eye care in a supportive, community-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee assigned mobile eye clinic operation
- Conduct eye exam pre-tests, maintain professional standards
- Take measurements, fit and adjust frames for patients according to prescriptions
- Aid patients with frame selections to ensure optimal fit and satisfaction
- Complete and prepare daily reports, meet deadlines
- Make follow-up calls to patient caregivers for feedback
- Conduct vision screenings using a Welch Allyn Spot Check Vision Screener
- Dispense glasses to large groups of student patients
- Study and follow Vision To Learn health and safety protocols
- Maintain optimal driver safety standards when operating the vehicle
- Setup the clinic, monitor and replenish inventory, facilitate efficient workflow
- Load, secure, inspect, and fuel the vehicle as necessary
- Keep vehicle and internal work areas clean and organized
Requirements
- Optician Diploma; Optician License/Certification (COA, COT, NCLE, ABO) required
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record and knowledge of the greater Charleston area
- Pass company and applicable background checks and drug test
- Proven track record of patient care and dedication to the organization's mission
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs., move, stand, walk, bend, and squat
Qualifications
- Spanish skills a plus
