Within a business unit, the Operations Manager - Hauling is responsible for managing collections activities for commercial, industrial, and residential customers, as well as container delivery and pick-up, in a geographically dispersed area. This role oversees a team of Operations Supervisors, Dispatchers, Operations Clerks, Drivers, and Helpers who manage routes for commercial, roll-off, and residential customers. The Operations Manager collaborates with the General Manager and other business unit leaders to execute local market strategies aligned with broader operational and marketing plans, driving functional excellence and budget achievement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management; develop supervisory goals and objectives; and resolve safety issues and claims.
  • Implement and execute plans to complement the business unit’s strategic and operating plan; champion tactical initiatives to enhance customer experience, growth, and durability while optimizing profitability.
  • Ensure maximum productivity and route management for commercial, roll-off, and residential routes; establish productivity goals; enforce operating standards; and manage labor hours and disposal expenses.
  • Interact with customers and government employees (local, state, and federal) to resolve service concerns and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee safety and accident prevention programs to prevent accidents and injuries; maintain a safe and productive work environment; and implement effective loss control and safety programs.
  • Lead operations to ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, safety, accounting, and ethics standards.
  • Approve expenses and manage the operations department budget, including purchase orders and vendor pricing.
  • Develop a best-in-class team and workplace culture; drive performance and talent development; and promote best-practice sharing.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government, community, and environmental groups.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or management experience or participation in Republic Services’ management trainee program.
