Ophthalmologic Photographer Supervisor

About the Role

As the Ophthalmic Photographer Supervisor, you will oversee the daily operations of the Ophthalmology Clinic Photography group while actively performing ophthalmic imaging and angiography procedures. This role ensures high-quality clinical photography services, maintains excellent customer service for patients and providers, and ensures compliance with departmental policies. You will train and mentor staff, manage scheduling and workflow, support ophthalmology research imaging needs, and oversee staffing, performance management, and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Manages the Ophthalmology Clinic Photography group, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures and recommending or implementing changes as necessary.
• Maintains high-level customer service, including effective communication with staff, physicians, and patients.
• Directs and organizes operational and clinic processes, executing an effective system of internal controls.
• Mentors, coaches, and trains staff on photographer/angiography equipment and practices to achieve high performance and standards of care.
• Sets and prioritizes tasks, monitors work for accuracy, and ensures adequate staffing for procedures.
• Performs or coordinates photography for Department of Ophthalmology research protocols and fundus photography for new research projects in collaboration with other departments.
• Handles interviewing, hiring, disciplinary actions, and termination of employees; completes annual performance reviews and recommends merit increases.
• Ensures the photography group maintains adequate supplies and equipment; recommends types of equipment and supplies to purchase.
• Reviews photography/angiography procedures with patients, follows up to answer questions, and resolves issues.
• Assists physicians with photography procedures and works with community physicians to schedule procedures.
• Supervises coordination of photographic exhibits at conferences and meetings of ophthalmologists and ophthalmic photographers.
• Maintains patient satisfaction.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree.
• 6 years of experience in ophthalmic photography with a Bachelor’s Degree or 2 years of experience with a Master’s Degree.
• 4 years of ophthalmic clinic experience.
• Certification as an Optical Coherence Tomographer through the American Society of Ophthalmic Photographers (required upon hire).
