Ophthalmic Assistant I

About the role

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) seeks candidates to support the Ophthalmology Specialty Clinics. This role involves preparing patients for examinations, assisting ophthalmologists during examinations, and ensuring a steady flow of patients through the clinic.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients and document ocular and medical histories, demographic data.
• Perform routine tests using ophthalmic instruments, including visual acuity, intraocular pressures, basic motility, and visual fields.
• Auxiliary the physician during diagnostic and minor surgical procedures, including instrumentation, sterile preparations, and documentation.
• Administer topical medications or diagnostic drugs as required by the provider for testing or treatment.
• Prepare and position the patient for diagnostic tests and procedures.
• Aid the physician with patient education regarding prescribed treatment.

Requirements

• A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
• No work experience required.
• One year experience working in an ophthalmic or optometry setting preferred.
• Knowledge of ocular diseases and systemic diseases affecting the eye preferred.
• Experience and/or knowledge of basic eye care and hygienic methods and practices involving the treatment of the eye preferred.

Pay

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan website.

Schedule

Monday-Friday 8:00-5:00.
