About the role

This is a bargaining unit vacancy in the M GM Operations - Maalaea Department of the M Generation Division at Hawaiian Electric Company. The role is non-exempt and involves training to perform the duties of a Senior Operator Helper at the diesel plant, as well as general maintenance work.

Responsibilities

• Mans a shift with a Senior Operator Helper and an Operator at the diesel plant, training to perform the duties of these classifications.
• Performs operational maintenance work at the diesel plant.
• May stand watch as Senior Operator Helper in a relief capacity when qualified.
• Keeps equipment and work area clean; maintains watch until relieved.
• Assumes an emergency management role, performing specific assignments or functions during emergencies (excluding routine trouble calls/callouts).
• Performs similar and incidental duties as required.

Requirements

• Ability to identify and distinguish between colors, including shades, hues, and tints (required for electrician-related positions).
• Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license.
• Must meet the standards for frequent required driving positions as outlined in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.
• Must pass the Edison Electric Institute Plant Operator Selection System (POSS). Note: Employees who have taken and passed the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) do not need to take the POSS.
• Must pass the Job Sample Test.
