About the role
Taylor’s Construction, Inc. is seeking a reliable, safety-minded Operator to support field crews in the execution of telecommunications and utility construction projects. This role is responsible for operating heavy equipment and machinery to support fiber optic cable installation, utility pole placement, site development, and other construction activities. The Operator will work under the direction of field supervisors and play a key role in ensuring safe, productive, and efficient field operations.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate heavy construction equipment including backhoes, excavators, dozers, loaders, dump trucks, and other job-site machinery.
- Prepare and maintain equipment prior to use, performing pre-operation safety checks and coordinating routine maintenance.
- Auxiliary crews with trenching, grading, site clearing, material loading/unloading, and traffic control during installation activities.
- Support utility pole placement, including rigging, equipment positioning, and material staging in coordination with field supervisors.
- Follow daily work plans and site instructions to help ensure project milestones are achieved on schedule.
- Maintain communication with supervisors and crew members regarding equipment performance, job site hazards, or environment conditions.
- Adhere to all safety rules, as well as traffic control and utility right-of-way standards at construction sites.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in heavy equipment operation preferred
- Proven experience operating heavy construction equipment in utility, telecommunications, or related industries
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction plans, markings, and work orders
- Strong commitment to safety with a working knowledge of jobsite hazard awareness and PPE requirements
- Valid driver’s license; CDL Class A or ability to obtain one is preferred
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and time-management skills
