Operations Team Leader

About the role

Aqua, an Essential Utilities company, seeks a Supervisor of Wastewater Operations to oversee day-to-day operations, monitor facility performance, and make recommendations for improvements. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, preferably with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, chemistry, or a related field, and 3+ years of professional experience in wastewater and/or water treatment system operations.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and track work activities for the department
• Work closely with other departments to share resources
• Monitor wastewater facility operations, including testing and analysis
• Report to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and industry best practices
• Make recommendations for operational improvements and cost efficiency
• Provide technical advice and guidance to System Operators
• Evaluate and recommend cost-effective improvements in system operations
• Prepare monitoring reports for regulatory review
• Oversee technical assistance during construction projects
• Interface with vendors, contractors, and consultants
• Assist in the cost development of capital projects and operating budgets
• Handle customer inquiries and concerns
• Coordinate the removal of sludge and supply deliveries
• Ensure subordinate staff are using business software
• Participate in an On-Call rotation
• Adhere to Aqua's safety and health policies and procedures
• Lead or assist with other tasks or projects

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or equivalent)
• Bachelor’s degree (preferred in Engineering, Construction Management, Chemistry, or a related field)
• 3+ years of professional experience in wastewater and/or water treatment system operations
• Proven project management experience, especially with multiple projects simultaneously
• Supervisory and/or leadership experience
• Licenses specific to location (PA Department of Environmental Protection Class E Wastewater Collection Systems License, valid U.S. driver’s license, NASSCO certification preferred)
• Knowledge of wastewater collection system practices and procedures
• Working knowledge of PA ONE call system
• Working knowledge of excavation and work zone safety
• Proficient with computers and software applications
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
