About the Role
The Plutonium Facilities Engineering Division provides engineering support to ensure the safe operation and modification of the Laboratory's Nuclear Facilities. The successful candidate will join the Project Controls Group, supporting the modification team under the Project Controls Team Leader. This role involves collaborative and innovative design solutions to address problems or enhance safety and non-safety systems at LANL's primary plutonium facility, maintaining the LANL mission.
This position may be filled at either the Operations Support Specialist 2 or 3 level, with additional responsibilities assigned for the higher level.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the robustness of the Configuration Management program by implementing key performance indicators for design processes at TA-55.
- Analyze the effectiveness and completeness of the PFE design process, identifying corrective actions for continuous improvement.
- Review engineering design packages, change paperwork, and standalone documents for completeness and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Use personal leadership and communication skills to support daily operations within the PFE Division and modification engineering sub-area.
- Prioritize safety and security, ensuring compliance, maintaining required training, and integrating safety into all tasks.
- Provide direct support for operational or process-based deliverables, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and high quality.
- Maintain documentation such as record-keeping, budget and cost-tracking, and inventory-tracking; develop documentation as needed.
- Communicate and coordinate with team members, supervisors, and other organizations to meet deliverables, anticipate obstacles, and clarify priorities.
- Assist in developing detailed plans for process management, scope, quality, efficiency, risk, communications, and professional responsibility.
- Perform administrative tasks including procurements, travel administration, resource scheduling, and office/personnel support.
- Coordinate the review and revision of procedures, scope, and process development for organizational or facility operations.
Operations Support Specialist 2
- Provide issues management support for complex issues, including data analysis, compilation, review, and assessment.
- Assist in developing corrective actions addressing root cause analysis, project management, safety, and coordination of presentations.
- Contribute to organizational goals and resolve issues creatively.
- Provide customer service to internal and external customers.
- Network with senior internal and external personnel in your area of expertise.
- Work under limited direction with general instructions on new assignments.
Operations Support Specialist 3
- In addition to the responsibilities of the lower level, provide guidance on interpreting Laboratory policies to ensure compliance.
- Research new strategies to ensure completeness of engineering documentation with minimal oversight.
- Analyze data for trends or deviations, ensuring accuracy of metrics.
- Provide expert input in developing operational and administrative policies, procedures, and reports.
- Oversee implementation of documentation systems and ensure compliance with document control, records management, and security requirements.

- High attention to detail when reviewing technical and general engineering documents.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks to meet customer deadlines.
Qualifications
Operations Support Specialist 2
- Associate's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 4 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Operations Support Specialist 3
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Post-graduate coursework may be desirable.
Desired Qualifications
- Active Q Clearance.
Schedule
- Work is fully on-site in Los Alamos, NM.
- Includes C shift support (Friday - Monday: Day Shift).
- On-call support will also be required.
Pay
- Operations Support Specialist 2: $72,800 - $115,400
- Operations Support Specialist 3: $87,800 - $143,000
