Salary: $59,100 - $72,200 annually depending on experience.

Schedule

This is a 3rd Shift position, working Sunday - Thursday: 9:30 PM - 6:30 AM. May be required to work after-hours, weekends, and holidays.

Regular, in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.

Responsibilities

• 40%: Direct cleaning operations and Custodial staff
  • Use Performance Excellence as a planning and evaluation tool to guide, engage, and motivate staff using T-shaped goal development, focusing on succession planning and lifelong learning
  • Recruit and retain a diverse staff of well-qualified and high-performing professionals
  • Create a positive work environment incorporating the University’s commitment to equal opportunity and diversity in hiring, retaining, and promoting employees
  • Promote and enforce departmental practices and processes
  • Coach and mentor staff to develop talents and empower employees to use their full range of strengths and abilities
  • Lead with empathic employee engagement, encouraging collaborative communication and innovation through teamwork
  • Act as a steward to preserve and maintain the campus as a teaching, demonstration, and research resource
  • Ensure accountability by holding staff to University policies, processes, and procedures with an emphasis on safety, compliance, and fiscal responsibility
  • Promote and enforce departmental policy on dependability for all staff
• 35%: Train and evaluate front-line employees
  • Plan staffing and time schedules
• 15%: Enforce departmental and University rules
  • Resolve employee complaints and grievances
• 10%: Assist with preparing short-term goals and objectives
  • Evaluate performance of key services by conducting cleanliness and process audits using departmental assessment tools
• Coordinate and oversee custodial staff activities across campus buildings, including:
  • Engineering and Digital Innovation Center
  • Plant and Environmental Sciences building
  • 3rd Shift custodial staff in Anthony Hall, BioMed Physical Sciences, Engineering, and STEM
• Maintain inventory records
• Respond to emergencies, inquiries, and complaints from faculty, students, tenants, and the public
• Inspect buildings to assess problems, damage, and overall condition to ensure timely repairs and uphold safety standards

Requirements

• Knowledge equivalent to that acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical, vocational, or business school with coursework in Human Resources, Communications, or Business
• One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work and supervisory experience in custodial tasks
• Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator's license; must drive a University vehicle to perform job duties

Qualifications

• Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems in buildings
• Experience in computer usage, inventory control, health care facility cleaning, and hazardous materials regulations
• Experience with heavy metal buffers, scrubbers, and strippers
• Familiarity with University buildings and department needs
• Expertise in Microsoft Office products
• Knowledge of facilities operations and University policies and practices
• Experience using database software (such as EBS/SAP and Planon)
• Good customer relations/service skills
• Ability to work independently and as an effective team member
• Ability to present concepts and strategies to various audiences
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and focus on detail despite frequent interruptions
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
• Aptitude and willingness to learn new software and data analysis tools and methodology
