Qualifications

  • Possess a high school diploma or GED
  • Possess and maintain a clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements preferred
  • One (1) year’s experience as a school bus driver or as a transportation professional preferred
  • One (1) year’s experience routing in public schools preferred
  • One (1) year’s technical experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate with diverse internal and external publics, in both verbal and written formats
  • Proficient in the use of personal computer, Microsoft Office applications, e-mail, internet, and departmental specific applications
  • Ability to learn and efficiently utilize transportation services software and hardware
  • Ability to read and understand documents including District policies and department guidelines
  • Possess the ability to work under pressure and regularly meet deadlines
  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Competent in data management, record management, and general office procedures
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand the English language
  • Ability to safely operate a school bus

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain the routing plan for regular education, special needs, and special program responsibilities
  • Investigate internal route concerns, including direct observation of concern and electronic review of pertinent data
  • Develop and oversee regular and consistent student assignments to routes and reports to campuses
  • Support field trip operations as needed, including the billing process
  • Access and utilize printed/electronic user manual for installed equipment/printers
  • Maintain accurate, updated records of equipment inventory and customer support calls
  • Communicate route plans and modifications to the transportation personnel and school personnel
  • Communicate and collaborate with transportation personnel and school personnel to ensure appropriate routes are created to accommodate special needs student behaviors and their related equipment needs
  • Maintain and support installed equipment and software as well as campus needs
  • Troubleshoot driver/student ID card issues
  • Create and maintain student information system access for all drivers and campus users
  • Answer and routing telephone calls
  • Assist in the production of requested reports, such as on-time performance, scan reports, etc.
  • Research and communicate issues and resolutions with school personnel
  • Assist with the execution of state counts, state routes, and the compilation of data for Texas Education Agency reporting
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and other documents required
  • Serve as a substitute bus driver as needed
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workstation
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress, continual sitting, and repetitive hand and arm motions. Must be able to get on and off a school bus and drive a school bus. Occasional exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, and vehicle fumes.

Salary and Schedule

244 days, $48,178 CP-8 Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year.
