About the role

The Operations Specialist, under the direction of the location supervisor and/or operations manager, supports grain and agronomy facility operations. This position assists in all aspects of elevator operations, including grain receiving, maintaining grain conditions, and measuring inventory. The role also involves operating agronomy facilities, handling bulk and packaged fertilizer and chemical products, and maintaining equipment such as forklifts and loaders. The incumbent may be assigned to assist other locations or departments and is expected to promote teamwork and uphold the cooperative’s image.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain grain quality, including weighing, grading, probing, and communicating bin designation
  • Perform general housekeeping to control dust levels
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on equipment
  • Measure and track inventory of grain and agronomy products
  • Handle basic grain operations, including loading and unloading trucks and dumping grain
  • Assist with loading and unloading fertilizer and chemicals
  • Understand basic agronomy chemistry of all products
  • Work in the fertilizer plant, including mixing, loading trucks, and reading work orders and maps
  • Operate and maintain agronomy load-out facilities and equipment such as loaders and forklifts
  • Assist with the mix schedule, prepare mixes to specifications, and account for each mix or service via tickets for inventory control
  • Maintain seed and bulk treatment equipment
  • Complete and maintain driving and delivery records
  • Assist with distribution of seed, fertilizer, and CPP products to growers
  • Receive dry and liquid fertilizer
  • Develop and maintain excellent customer relations
  • Enforce and abide by all cooperative policies, including credit policies
  • Maintain good communication with employees and customers
  • Check with other departments for assistance before ending the shift
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Good customer service skills

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Agriculture background
  • Valid Driver License
  • Certificate to Grade Grain
  • Forklift Certification (or ability to obtain it)
  • Basic skills: Speaking, writing, reading comprehension, listening, monitoring, judgment and decision making, time management
