About the Role

The Operations Specialist, under the direction of the location supervisor and/or operations manager, is responsible for tasks in operating grain and/or agronomy facilities. This position assists in all aspects of elevator operations, including receiving grain, maintaining grain conditions, measuring grain inventory, and operating agronomy facilities. The incumbent will also load and unload bulk and packaged fertilizer and chemical products, operate equipment such as forklifts and loaders, and maintain seed and bulk treatment equipment. The role requires assisting other locations and departments as assigned, maintaining efficiency, and promoting teamwork to achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain grain quality, including weighing, grading, probing, and communicating bin designation
  • Perform general housekeeping to maintain dust levels
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to equipment
  • Measure and track inventory of grain and agronomy products
  • Perform basic grain handling, including loading and unloading trucks and dumping grain
  • Assist with loading and unloading fertilizer and chemicals
  • Understand basic agronomy chemistry of all products
  • Work in the fertilizer plant, including mixing, loading trucks, reading work orders and maps
  • Operate and maintain agronomy load-out facilities
  • Operate equipment such as loaders and forklifts
  • Assist with the assigned mix schedule, prepare mixes to specifications, and account for each mix or service by writing job, sales, or transfer tickets for accurate inventory control
  • Maintain seed and bulk treatment equipment
  • Complete and maintain driving and delivery records
  • Assist with operations and distribution of seed, fertilizer, and CPP products to growers
  • Receive dry and liquid fertilizer
  • Work directly with customers to develop excellent customer relations
  • Enforce and abide by all cooperative policies, including the cooperative’s credit policy
  • Maintain good communication with all employees and customers
  • Check with other departments to see if help is needed before going home
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Good customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Agriculture background
  • Certificate to Grade Grain
  • Forklift Certification – or ability to obtain it
