Operations Manager- Transportation (Supply Chain/Logistics)

About the role

The Operations Manager at Penske Truck Leasing is responsible for leading a team in a dynamic operational environment, ensuring customer requirements are met while achieving Penske goals and objectives. This role involves developing forward-looking plans and turning them into successful execution, managing financial resources, implementing a safety culture, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Establish and sustain training and competency of all supervisors and associates
• Recruit, hire, train, develop, and retain quality associates
• Communicate effectively with associates, customers, and supporting departments
• Meet or exceed customer key performance metrics and objectives
• Identify and implement operational improvements in areas such as route optimization, carrier selection, backhauls, and trailer loading
• Develop and execute annual financial and operating plan
• Lead the operation to meet or exceed the Business Plan targets
• Ensure customer billings and associate payroll are accurate and timely, and all other activities are reflected in the P&L
• Lead a culture of safety through personal example and continuous improvement
• Identify and seize profitable business opportunities for the customer and Penske
• Contribute to equipment specification at time of start-up and renewal

Qualifications

• 4-6 years related functional experience
• 3+ years managerial or supervisory experience with DOT regulated positions
• High School degree or equivalent
• Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to connect and build rapport with associates and external customers
• Time management and organizational skills with follow-up and follow-through
• Ownership and responsibility for running the operation with a sense of urgency
• Demonstrated ability to develop and execute annual financial operating plan
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present and listen actively
