Basic Functions
Responsible for the daily operations, maintenance, compliance, and supervision of the Hydro Plant.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for all plant activities; develops work plans, leads, supervises, oversees plant safety, and develops staff.
- Captures the delivery of power from the plant to the electrical grid and ensures maximum power delivery with minimal interruptions.
- Manages the overall maintenance of the plant including initiating and tracking work orders, providing job plans, tracking asset expenses in both labor and materials, implementing preventative maintenance; managing inventory control; and conducting maintenance training programs.
- Oversees large maintenance and capital projects from proposal development to project execution.
- Manages plant purchasing, equipment ordering, and maintaining an adequate parts inventory, including researching alternative parts.
- Assists in developing and maintaining plant operations and safety procedures, conducting safety tailgates and risk assessments.
- Maintains plant safety procedures and complies with OSHA standards during start-ups and shut-downs of equipment.
- Maintains intake cleanliness, trash handling, and disposal procedures, tracks and arranges proper disposal of refuse and hazardous waste.
- Prepares operating budgets for the plant and related facilities, tracks operating expenses to ensure budgets are not exceeded.
- Performs daily inspections of the plant and prepares outage reports, maintenance reports, and inventory control.
- Oversees the operations of high voltage equipment and maintenance on the transmission line to the operating company interconnection.
- Monitors equipment, instruments, tools, and meters for malfunctions, adjustments, or failures; notifies appropriate personnel of necessary maintenance as required.
- Utilizes historical trends for troubleshooting and reporting.
- Collaborates with the Energy Control Center, contractors, corporate safety, Hydro Coordinators, and operators on major outages.
- Reports dam safety concerns to the Dam Safety Coordinator, understanding potential failure modes and the dam safety monitoring plan.
- Maintains compliance with various state and federal regulatory agencies, preparing inspection reports, and ensuring implementation of compliance procedures.
- On-call 24/7.
- Performs the duties of the Plant Operator as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Qualifications
- Must have a two or four-year degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or engineering technology and one year of supervisory experience in plant operations, or five to ten years experience in power plant operations including supervisory experience.
- Must have familiarity with OSHA, FERC, NERC, and USACE requirements.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of power plant equipment and principles of operation.
- Has the ability to read instruction manuals, blueprints, logic diagrams, and schematics.
- Must have good problem-solving skills, and basic mechanical and electrical skills.
- Must have the ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and react calmly during plant emergencies.
- Must have knowledge of the operation and maintenance of control devices and recording/metering devices common to power plants.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers is a plus.
- Must be proficient with MS Office, email, Maximo, and other software.
- Excellent physical condition to work effectively in work conditions which include exposure to adverse weather, confined spaces of a submerged plant, and be able to lift 65 pounds.
