Operations Controller

Position Summary

Our client, a well-established and growing agriculture company, is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing the month-end close process, and providing financial insight to support strategic business decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, leadership experience, and a hands-on approach within a fast-paced agricultural environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Oversee all daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
• Prepare and review accurate monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and all federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Manage annual audits and coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and banking partners.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial analyses.
• Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability and operational efficiency.
• Monitor inventory valuation, cost accounting, and agricultural production costs.
• Support executive leadership with strategic planning and financial decision-making.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment.
• Ensure timely filing of sales tax, property tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory reporting.
• Partner with operations to improve financial processes and reporting across multiple locations or entities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA designation preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a Controller or Accounting Manager leadership role.
• Agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls.
• Experience managing audits and working with external CPA firms.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities with the ability to work cross-functionally.
• Preferred Experience:
• Agricultural cost accounting.
• Multi-entity or multi-location accounting.
• Inventory and fixed asset accounting.
• Budgeting and forecasting.
• Cash flow management.
• Continuous process improvement initiatives.
