Operating Room RN Weekend Nights | No Call

About the Role

Full-time weekend night shift position: 7pm–7am, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. No call requirement. Enhanced weekend shift differential available.

Unit Overview

33 operating rooms, 3 hybrid rooms used for neurovascular and vascular procedures. 4 Da Vinci robots, 2 Mako robots, and 1 Ion. The team trains across 13 specialties: robotics, ortho, spine, neuro, cardiovascular, general/bariatrics, gynecology, plastics, surgical oncology, urology, ENT, and transplant. Additional training is provided for neuro and cardiac teams. The unit performs open, laparoscopic, and robotic procedures across multiple service lines, including laser and microscope procedures.

Team Environment

Excellent teamwork and collaboration among nursing staff, surgeons, residents, and anesthesia. The team provides compassionate care and works together to ensure patients have a great surgical experience.

Responsibilities

• Use the nursing process to assess patients and identify nursing diagnoses
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans
• Modify plans to meet patient outcomes
• Promote safe patient passage and help patients transition through care without preventable complications or delays
• Delegate interventions based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and employee competencies
• Evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, including nursing indicators
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice changes
• Create a therapeutic, safe environment and develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families
• Manage pain to promote relief and healing
• Incorporate patient and family culture, beliefs, values, and diversity into care plans
• Protect patient confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights
• Facilitate learning for patients, families, staff, and the healthcare team
• Collaborate with colleagues and community to create and implement care plans
• Use systems thinking and resources for problem-solving while considering safety and effectiveness

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited RN program (Major: Nursing)
• 1 year of current OR experience required
• Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must obtain within 30 days of hire or transfer

Qualifications

• Knowledge of nursing and patient care standards, laws, regulations, and accrediting body guidelines
• Knowledge of medical terminology, health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention and management
• Knowledge of medications, common dosages, effects, and possible adverse reactions
• Knowledge of medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Social skills to interact with a wide range of constituencies
• Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to observe changes in patient conditions and communicate them to the care team
• Ability to provide age-specific, quality, patient-centered care
• General computer skills including Microsoft Office, electronic medical documentation, scheduling and payroll systems, and email
