About the Role

Full-time Weekend Night shift position. No call. Schedule: 7pm–7am Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Enhanced Weekend shift differential.

Unit Overview

• 33 operating rooms, 3 hybrid rooms used for neurovascular and vascular procedures
• 4 Da Vinci robots, 2 Mako robots, and 1 Ion robot
• Training provided in 13 specialties: robotics, ortho, spine, neuro, CV, general/bariatrics, gyn, plastics, surgical oncology, urology, ENT, and transplant
• Additional training available for neuro and cardiac teams
• Variety of open, laparoscopic, and robotic procedures across multiple service lines
• Multiple laser and microscope procedures performed
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration among nursing staff, surgeons, residents, and anesthesia

Job Summary

The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing model to coordinate patient care. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements an individualized care plan, and evaluates the patient's response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by using knowledge of patient needs, helps patients transition through healthcare without preventable complications or delays, and delegates interventions based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and employee competencies.

Essential Functions

• Clinical Judgment: Conducts accurate assessments according to standards using clinical reasoning. Identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs. Develops, implements, and evaluates the nursing care plan and modifies it to meet outcomes.
• Clinical Inquiry: Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, including nursing indicators. Helps evidence-based practice changes through research and learning. Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
• Caring Practices: Creates an attentive, helpful, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff. Develops therapeutic relationships and manages pain to promote relief and healing.
• Response to Diversity: Recognizes and appreciates patients' and families' unique differences. Incorporates culture, beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, status, age, and values into care plans.
• Advocacy and Moral Agency: Preserves and protects confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights. Represents patient and family concerns and identifies and helps resolve ethical and clinical concerns.
• Facilitation of Learning: Facilitates learning for patients, families, nursing staff, healthcare team, and community. Integrates education throughout care, including health promotion and disease prevention. Assesses and documents learning needs and outcomes.
• Partnership: Works with colleagues and community to create and implement care plans. Delegates tasks to appropriate staff and ensures timely follow-up.
• Systems Thinking: Uses strategies and resources for problem-solving for patients, family, and staff. Recognizes limited resources and considers safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in planning and delivering patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited RN Program
• Major: Nursing
• 1 year of current OR experience required

Required Certifications/Licenses

• Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer
