Operating Room Assistant - Surgery Support
This position is a member of a multi-disciplinary team that maintains the physical environment of the OR and procedural areas (cath lab, EP and IR) at the highest level of cleanliness, both from an appearance and infection control standpoint.
About the role
The Perioperative Care Associate II (PCA II) assists the surgical/invasive procedural and Surgery/Procedure Admissions Unit (SPAU) staff with preparatory aspects of patient care. Responsibilities include transportation, room cleaning and turnover, supply stocking, and general care of the environment. This role requires proficiency in both basic and advanced cleaning techniques in surgical and procedural areas, including safe use of chemicals, equipment, and infection control methods. The PCA II also handles medical waste (hazardous, regulated, infectious, recyclable, and regular) and assists with case cart completion, preparation of positioning devices, and quality improvement processes.
The PCA II works under the guidance of the Lead Core Tech and the Surgical Supervisor/Nurse Manager as part of an interdisciplinary team, aligned with the mission, vision, and values of the Surgical Services department and Swedish Medical Center.
Responsibilities
- Assist surgical and procedural staff with preparatory patient care tasks.
- Perform transportation, room cleaning, and turnover in OR and procedural areas.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control.
- Demonstrate proficiency in advanced cleaning techniques and safe use of chemicals and equipment.
- Handle and remove medical waste, including hazardous, regulated, infectious, recyclable, and regular waste.
- Assist with case cart completion and preparation of positioning devices.
- Support quality improvement processes.
- Collaborate as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Requirements
- National Provider BLS certification from the American Heart Association (upon hire).
- 1 year of experience as a Perioperative Care Associate I or equivalent in a healthcare environment.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $28.25 - $38.83 per hour. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, standby/on-call pay, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonuses.
