The new Clemson University Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (PCVM) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to lead the development and implementation of course materials relevant to veterinary infectious diseases, with a focus on microbiology/virology within the diseased animal curriculum of the DVM program.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teaching and curriculum development focused on the second-year veterinary curriculum for the CVM.
- Developing and delivering the infectious disease curriculum in the team-taught systems-based Diseased Animal course series, with a focus on microbiology and virology.
- Contribute to teaching other relevant courses in the curriculum, including but not limited to internal medicine, clinical skills, and professional development.
- Aid in the development of the Clemson CVM microbiology lab policies and procedures.
- Develop assessment strategies in alignment with the overall competency-based curriculum.
- Collaborate with other faculty members to ensure integration of knowledge and skills across years and courses.
- Actively and effectively engage in student-centered instruction, coaching, and mentorship.
- Aid in the procurement of state-of-the-art teaching equipment related to microscopy.
Reporting
Reporting To The Department Chair And Working Closely With The Foundational Sciences Lead And Associate Dean Of Academic Affairs, The Infectious Disease Faculty Will Create and deliver the infectious disease curriculum in the team-taught systems-based Diseased Animal course series, with a focus on microbiology and virology.
Qualifications
- DVM with 3+ years of relevant experience in veterinary medicine or animal sciences.
- Possession of board certification or residency training in a veterinary specialty (e.g., ACVM, ACVP, ACVIM) preferred.
Overview of Clemson and the CVM
The CVM has received a letter of reasonable assurance from the AVMA-Council on Education to offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and will admit the first class of 80 students in 2026. The CVM plans to utilize a semi-distributive model of clinical training for students. Its brand-new, state-of-the-art campus will reside in Pendleton, SC, near the T. Ed Garrison Arena, will house research and teaching labs, and utilize both ambulatory services as well as teaching sites at the Clemson University Equine Center, Lamaster Dairy Cattle Center, and other locations for education in the field.
