About the role

The Department of Mathematical Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking data scientists with expertise in Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Statistical Modeling, and/or High-Performance Data Analytics for an open rank faculty position. Successful candidates are expected to develop productive research programs, mentor and teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and direct Ph.D. dissertations in data science. Candidates with experience in industry and/or applied interdisciplinary research projects are encouraged to apply. Anticipated start date is fall 2027.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a productive research program in data science.
• Mentor and teach students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Direct Ph.D. dissertations in data science.
• Secure extramural funding for research initiatives.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in statistical/mathematical data science or a related field.
• Strong record of research accomplishments.
• Capacity to secure extramural funding.

Qualifications

• For recent PhDs, preference will be given to those with postdoctoral experience.
• Experience in industry and/or applied interdisciplinary research projects is a plus.
