Open-rank position in the Department of Philosophy, beginning July 1, 2027.
About the role
The successful candidate will engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts. The teaching load is four courses across two semesters.
Smith College is the largest women’s college in the country, located in Northampton, MA, and is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research across the liberal arts. A faculty of outstanding scholars interact with students in small classes, as advisors, and through student-faculty research projects. The College is a member of a consortium with Amherst and Mount Holyoke Colleges, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst, allowing students to cross-enroll and faculty to cross-teach at institutions in the consortium.
Responsibilities
- Teach four courses per academic year (two semesters).
- Engage in scholarly research and publication.
- Advise students and participate in departmental and college service.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Philosophy by the time of appointment.
- Area of Specialization (AOS): Philosophy of language or philosophy of mind.
- Area of Competence (AOC): Open, but teaching competence in logic or a non-Western philosophical tradition is desirable.
