Open Rank Faculty Position in Applied Mathematics
Northwestern University invites applications for two full-time faculty positions in Applied Mathematics to begin in September 2027 in the Department of Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics.
About the Role
One position will be at the assistant or associate level, and the other will be open rank. Candidates in all fields of applied mathematics, science, and engineering with a demonstrated ability to conduct high-impact interdisciplinary research in applied mathematics are encouraged to apply.
Northwestern University offers a stimulating environment, encouraging collaborations across departments and schools. The research of current faculty spans multiple departments in the McCormick School of Engineering, the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, and the Feinberg School of Medicine in areas including scientific computing, biological systems, fluid dynamics, complex systems, materials science, energy systems, ML/AI for science, and social systems.
Many of the department’s faculty are members of the NSF-Simons National Institute for Theory and Mathematics in Biology. Faculty also actively participate in interdisciplinary centers such as the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems, the Center for Synthetic Biology, the Northwestern University Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program, the Paula M. Trienens Institute for Sustainability and Energy, the Northwestern–Argonne Institute for Scientific and Engineering Excellence, and the Center for Computation and Theory of Soft Materials.
