Open Rank- Clinical Faculty in Radiology and Imaging

About the role

The Department of Radiology at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor to join the Medical Physics Section. The selected candidate will provide comprehensive clinical support for diagnostic imaging services, including quality assurance and quality control, equipment performance evaluation, regulatory compliance, and optimization of imaging protocols. Additional responsibilities include teaching and mentoring radiology residents, medical physics trainees, technologists, medical students, and radiologic technology students, while contributing to the department's clinical, educational, and academic missions. This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities – 80%

• Oversight of quality control and participation in equipment selection, development of purchase specifications, acceptance tests of imaging equipment, dosimetry, and resolution of imaging problems across all modalities
• Active involvement in the ACR accreditation programs for imaging equipment
• Performance evaluations of all imaging equipment in compliance with ACR recommendations, The Joint Commission standards, and state regulations
• Collaboration with Radiology faculty and QC staff to monitor image quality, refine clinical protocols, and promote best practices across all imaging modalities
• Clinical support for the Radiation Safety Program, including oversight of patient dose optimization, staff radiation protection, regulatory compliance, and participation in Radiation Safety Committee activities
• Monitoring and analysis of patient dose, including CT dose management and fluoroscopic skin dose evaluations using Imologix dose tracking software
• Development and participation in departmental quality improvement initiatives

Academic Responsibilities – 20%

• Participation in imaging physics instruction of diagnostic radiology residents, technologists, and technology students
• Delivery of a structured imaging physics curriculum, including didactic lectures and hands-on lab activities
• Participation in scholarly activities appropriate to appointment rank

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. or M.S. in medical physics, engineering, or a related physical science
• ABR board certification or eligibility in Diagnostic Medical Physics

Minimum rank requirements by appointment level:

• Instructor: Medical professional in training who holds a medical degree and has completed residency training; contributes to teaching, student support, and the clinical mission
• Assistant Professor: Early career faculty member with appropriate postgraduate training
• Associate Professor: Mid-career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience
• Professor: Senior faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience

Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and ranks:

• Consistent with SACSCOC accreditation requirements
• Evidence of ability as a teacher
• Evidence of scholarly activity and ability to perform all assigned duties
• Successful prior experience (waived for those entering academia who meet all other requirements)
• Desirable personal qualities assessed via interview, biographical data, and recommendations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in nuclear medicine
