This is a faculty position responsible to the Chairman, Department of Urology who reports to the Head of the Division of Surgery.

About the Role

Provides clinical expertise in patient care management with emphasis in Urinary Tract Reconstruction, Voiding Dysfunction, and General Urology. Provides an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students in the specialty of Urology. Provides expertise in clinical and/or translational research.

Responsibilities

• Administration
  • Serve on institutional committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings.
  • Listen to deliberations and provide verbal feedback as necessary.
  • Visually review all documents pertaining to committee functions.
• Patient Care
  • Provide state-of-the-art Urinary Tract Reconstructive and General Urology surgical procedures for Urology patients and patients from other Clinical Services.
  • Develop and maintain a clinical consultative practice for patients referred to UT MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Provide physician staffing for the Urology Department at a level commensurate with that of other physicians with the same level of training and experience.
  • Visually review for proper ICD-9, ICD-10, and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within 5 working days.
  • Utilize electronic billing applications as available and supported by the institution.
  • Complete patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by institutional and local hospital policies.
  • Dictate in a clear and concise manner and visually review documents.
  • Correspond as appropriate in writing or by telephone with physicians regarding patient care and treatment.
  • Keep abreast of current approaches in patient management through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty.
  • Request appropriate consultations for patients by phone or in writing to other physicians.
  • Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, and students.
  • Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the Department.
  • Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in accordance with standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners and the American College of Physicians.
  • Perform complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations.
  • Perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician's subspecialty, which may require standing, bending, stooping, lifting, hearing, manual dexterity, and clear verbal communications.
• Education/Teaching
  • Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in Urinary Tract Reconstruction, Voiding Dysfunction, and General Urology principles and techniques.
  • Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences, requiring verbal interaction with colleagues.
• Research
  • Actively engage in or facilitate clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department at the main campus.
  • Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities aligned with the goals of the Department.
  • Synthesize a myriad of information pertaining to the area of research.
  • Instruct research support personnel in protocol implementation, orally or in writing, as necessary.
• Service
  • Represent the Department of Urology in local, regional, state, and national matters.
  • Travel to sites outside of the Houston area and disseminate information obtained or learned by sharing with department colleagues verbally or in writing.
  • Participate in community-based tumor boards, disease-specific conferences, and other meetings.
  • Represent UT MD Anderson at community events, educational forums, and among referring physician groups across the region.

Requirements

• Advance Medical Degree - MD or DO from an approved Medical School.
• Successful completion of a Fellowship focused on Urinary Tract and Pelvic Reconstruction - GURS or URPS with experience in urinary diversion.
• Robotic privileges at current institution.
• Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas.
• Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
• Board Certified in Urology or timely progression toward certification.

Qualifications

• Previous clinical experience as a Fellow or Faculty member with a focus on Urinary Tract Reconstruction, Voiding Dysfunction, and/or Genitourinary Prosthetics.
• Preferred: Expertise in multiple minimally invasive surgical platforms for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia or demonstrated interest and expertise in Female Urology and Reconstructive Surgery.
