About the Department

The Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC; www.ccrc.uga.edu) is an R1 research land-grant and sea-grant institution. The CCRC is home to national resources for the study of complex carbohydrates from plants, microbes, and animals, including:

• DOE Center for Plant and Microbial Complex Carbohydrates
• NSF-funded BioF-GREAT BioFoundry
• Network for Advanced NMR (NAN)
• NIH-funded T32 Glycoscience Training Program
• DOE-funded Center for Bioenergy Innovation (CBI)
• GLYGEN and GLYCAM databases
• Leadership for the 5th edition of Essentials of Glycobiology

The CCRC offers access to cutting-edge NMR, Mass Spectrometry, Computational, and Structural Biology infrastructure, a robust graduate student training program (partially supported by an NIH training grant in Glycoscience), and highly motivated undergraduate trainees.

About the Role

The University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the area of plant and/or microbial glycoscience. We seek outstanding scientists whose research complements or expands existing strengths at the CCRC and fosters a team science atmosphere. Successful candidates will be expected to:

• Build or maintain a vibrant, extramurally-funded research program leveraging the collaborative environment at the CCRC and UGA
• Utilize and expand national resources for complex carbohydrate research
• Participate in education at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
• Mentor graduate students, undergraduate students, and postdoctoral research associates

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Plant Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a relevant discipline
• At least two years of postdoctoral or relevant research experience
• Outstanding publication record and a well-developed research plan

• Assistant Professor: Applications will be considered from talented and accomplished investigators who currently maintain or exhibit potential for developing vigorous research programs.
• Associate or Full Professor: Applicants should have a record of high productivity, consistent extramural funding, and evidence of international recognition.
