One-on-One Direct Support Professional (DSP)

Responsibilities

• Meeting individuals’ needs and developing an effective support relationship
• Aid in transportation, ADLs, and IADLs
• Provide person-centered supports that recognize the rights of each individual and encourage individuals supported to live the life they choose
• Aid in daily personal hygiene care
• Collaborate with families and support teams to provide the best opportunities
• Aid in participation in social and recreational activities
• Maintain accurate knowledge and familiarity with all program procedures, operation manual, individual consumer characteristics, and The Arc Gloucester’s Policies and Procedures
• Avoid delays in taking and recording medication, ensuring proper records are maintained regarding use of medication (only if required during respite)
• Maintain accurate records of consumers and program activities
• Maintain an accurate knowledge of geographic area to carry out all job duties
• Maintain a positive attitude and role model for all consumers
• Maintain an alert awareness while on duty to ensure safety of consumers
• Comply with the DDD Program Manual, The Arc Gloucester Policies and Procedures Manual and applicable state, local and federal regulations, including any COVID-19 vaccination mandates
• Employee must cooperate with The Arc Gloucester, Division Staff and Developmental Disability Licensing staff in any review, investigation or inspection
• Additional responsibilities as required

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or general education degree (GED), and must be 18 years of age or older
• A current driver’s license with 5 points or less, and deemed acceptable to drive by The Arc Gloucester’s liability insurance company
• Proficient in basic computer skills
• A first aid/cpr certification
• Knowledge or experience with supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with strong behavioral supports needed
• Successfully pass initial and ongoing State/Federal Criminal Background checks, including Fingerprinting, CARI checks, Central Registry checks and drug screens
