Position Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will work as part of a team to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Springfield area. At Rise & Shine, DSPs support clients with living meaningful and rewarding lives. This includes assisting with daily living activities, administering medication and advocacy.
Essential Job Functions
- Support clients with daily living activities, such as personal care and health management, communication, achieving personal and educational goals, meal planning and preparation, shopping, housekeeping, basic home maintenance and safety, home management, financial management, community involvement, developing meaningful connections, and decision making.
- Transporting individuals in company vehicles or on public transit.
- Advocate for the rights of the people we support.
- Aid in creating Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and Behavioral Support Plans (BSPs).
- Administer medication to clients requiring such support.
- Document in Therap and record keeping as required.
- Report suspected neglect or abuse per the OAR requirements.
- Adhere to Individual Support Plans and Behavioral Support Plans that have been formulated to support clients' safety and wellbeing, particularly as it applies to violent behaviors.
- Attend all team meetings and training as required.
- Train and welcome new staff into the homes.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience as a DSP or CNA (preferred, not required)
- Experience using Therap (preferred, not required)
Minimum Requirements
- Must have High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass Oregon criminal background screening.
- Must possess basic computer skills and be able to complete documentation electronically.
- Must be able to remain awake and alert while on shift.
- Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs., bend and/or squat.
- Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
- Must be able to perform job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Must be flexible to work at different locations depending on where there is need for additional support during their weekly schedule.
