About the role

The Oncology Lay Patient Navigator works with the Oncology Nurse Navigators to provide personalized support to patients, families, and caregivers from screening to survivorship. They coordinate timely access to quality and comprehensive health and psychosocial services throughout the continuum of care.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure timely access to quality and comprehensive health and psychosocial services.
  • Help guide patients through the health care system with the resources they need to get care.
  • Help patients and their families understand and cope with the strong emotions that accompany a cancer diagnosis.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to all, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and high level time management skills.
  • Answer calls and email requests in a friendly, timely, courteous, and professional manner, showing genuine concern for each situation.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Oncology Nurse Navigator team members and other hospital personnel to provide quality customer service and smooth transitions.
  • Support organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2-5 years of health care experience including medical terminology required.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of customer service or community/public interaction required.
  • A Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required upon hire or transfer.
  • A Certified Medical Assistant required upon hire or transfer.
  • American Heart Association BLS required upon hire or transfer.
  • Excellent computer skills and good knowledge of EMRs required.
