On-Call Service/Maintenance

This is an on-call position providing food service, custodial, grounds maintenance, general labor, or other main support on an as-needed basis. Join the dynamic Custodial team and help support MSU's mission of advancing knowledge and transforming lives. You'll use top cleaning methods, equipment, and standards in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment, ensuring MSU's facilities remain clean, safe, and beautiful. This is a limited assignment running from hire through May 2027, with regular in-person attendance required.

Schedule

This role follows a varied schedule including days, late nights, and weekends to support university events. Hours range from 20–32 per week, typically scheduled two weeks in advance. During slower periods, you may provide custodial support to other campus departments.

Responsibilities

• Clean restrooms, arena seating areas, sweep/dust, and mop floors (40% of role).
• Refurbish, repair, and occasionally paint equipment.
• Receive and store supplies.
• Work primarily in a designated event building but may be assigned across campus to meet labor demands.
• Engage in high-performing, leading-edge practices with a focus on valuing people, partners, and stewardship.

Requirements

• Frequent lifting of over 75 pounds is required.

Physical Demands & Health Risks

• Lifting trash from brute barrels to dumpsters.
• Emptying recycling containers into curb carts.
• Putting away stock.
• Exposure to human blood, serum, tissue, and other body fluids, as well as materials covered under Universal Precautions.
