Minimum Qualifications
Degree / Education / Certification- The Physician shall have successfully completed:
- Eligible candidates shall be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
- Must maintain current:
Licensure- Possession of a valid, unrestricted medical license in at least one (1) U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth.
- Physician must, at minimum, be Board Eligible.
Other Required Qualifications
The Contractor Health Care Provider (HCP) shall:
- Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare staff.
- Be knowledgeable in medical equipment and supply terminology, with skills sufficient to identify, utilize, and instruct others in proper use.
- Demonstrate skill in patient education, including motivating patients and family members in self-care and recovery processes.
- Possess knowledge and skills necessary to provide care across all age-related populations, including infants, children, and adolescents, and demonstrate understanding of growth and development principles.
- Be a United States citizen.
- Maintain a current DEA registration number.
- Demonstrate competency in patient interviewing, examination, assessment, diagnosis, and management of general medical and surgical conditions.
- Manage seriously ill patients through consultation with or referral to appropriate specialists.
- Reside within a 65-mile radius of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC).
Scope of Work — Duties & Responsibilities
The On-Call Pediatric Surgeon shall provide comprehensive pediatric surgical services in accordance with Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) policies, standing orders, and clinical protocols, including but not limited to:
- Perform the full range of general pediatric surgical services.
- Obtain patient histories and conduct comprehensive examinations.
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory and imaging.
- Diagnose conditions and prescribe appropriate medications, diets, and treatment plans.
- Supervise and collaborate with nursing and clinical staff.
- Operate under the general professional supervision of the Chief of Pediatric Surgical Services.
- Provide recommendations regarding policy and program improvements related to pediatric surgical services.
- Congduct inpatient rounds as required.
- Provide consultation and serve in a teaching capacity for MTF staff and clinic personnel.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and patient records.
- Provide expert opinions upon request by supervising physicians.
- Complete Fitness for Duty Evaluations IAW AR 40-501 and all Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) documentation.
- Provide medical care during assigned duty hours, including routine call coverage and emergency response, and complete all charting within 72 hours IAW Joint Commission guidelines.
- Perform additional administrative and clinical functions as required, including schedule management, consult review, peer reviews, staff meetings, equipment oversight, compliance with SOPs, and mandatory training.
