About the role

The Ombudsman provides professional advocacy services to residents of all long-term care licensed assisted living facilities and nursing homes in Anne Arundel County. The position is held to the standard of the Ombudsman Code of Ethics by providing confidential services that is resident-driven.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, investigate, and seek to resolve complaints made by and on behalf of residents of long-term care facilities.
  • Ensure facilities are following laws pertaining to vulnerable seniors and persons with disabilities.
  • Aid in establishing effective resident and family councils.
  • Work with volunteers of Program by supporting and educating them on regulations and rights of residents.
  • Make referrals to appropriate agencies including law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with long-term care facilities, county, state, and federal agencies.
  • Collect client data while observing confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of Federal and State Regulations.
  • In depth knowledge of psychosocial, physical, health, and emotional needs of frail and /or disabled adults.
  • Skill in interviewing, negotiating, and counseling individuals.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Skills

  • Strong computer skills using Microsoft software and Google Suite.
  • Ability to speak in public to a diverse audience of various sizes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
