General Summary of Position
Ensures a safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors. Patrols hospital property, responds to calls for assistance, reports on conditions, objects, or persons impacting security and/or safety, and responds according to established policies, procedures, and regulations. Mentors and trains security staff. Assumes charge role as needed.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations. Assists supervisor with daily supervision of the shift to include monitoring communication center and monitoring security officers to ensure that their duties are being performed correctly. Makes on-the-spot corrections when needed. Acts as a resource or mentor to security staff. Conducts in-service training.

Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years of MedStar satisfactory performance as a Security Officer I and SPO commissioned required or 5-7 years of total related security or law enforcement experience (inside or outside of MedStar) required.
- Licenses and Certifications: DL - Valid State Driver's License in good standing required. MD Special Police Commission - MDSPC preferred or Special Police Officer - DC - SPO if Special Police Officer (SPO) must satisfy ongoing training requirements to maintain SPO commission in Maryland and/or DC. IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer preferred. CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required.
