About the role

The role requires a Security Officer to provide security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in challenging circumstances. The position involves responding to emergent situations, maintaining safety and security, and performing various administrative duties.

Responsibilities

  • Provide security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in challenging circumstances.
  • Present a professional, approachable, and service-oriented appearance and demeanor.
  • Be alert, observant, and ethical.
  • Comply with and enforce all safety and security rules and regulations.
  • Maintain Department uniform and equipment in good repair.
  • Perform routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols.
  • Inspect to identify vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions.
  • Audit Interim Life Safety Measures.
  • Manage patient valuables and conduct thorough contraband searches.
  • Assist team members, patients, and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help.
  • Control traffic and monitor visitor conduct.
  • Confront unauthorized persons for questioning.
  • Prevent, respond to, and investigate workplace violence.
  • Respond to service calls involving combative or threatening patients or visitors and team member incidents.
  • Serve as a primary resource for de-escalation.
  • Plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies.
  • Respond immediately to emergencies and crisis situations.
  • Investigate incidents and complete timely and accurate reports.
  • Address and escalate complaints to the appropriate leader.
  • Deliver security awareness education to team members.
  • Liaise with state and local law enforcement and first responder agencies.
  • Coordinate, brief, and monitor law enforcement prisoners.
  • Assist as a training resource for the Department.
  • Train probationary officers and implement their orientation, onboarding, and assessment.
  • Prepare lesson plans for officers who do not meet training expectations.
  • Assist department leaders in administrative duties.
  • Review required reports and records for quality and accuracy.
  • Inspect uniforms, equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Train in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, CPR, application of clinical restraints, conducted energy weapon use, and maintain training records.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal licensing and certification requirements.

Requirements

  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) from IAHSS.
  • Armed Guard License in North Carolina.
  • Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID) in Illinois.
  • Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license in Wisconsin.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (e.g. TASER).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 4 years of experience in a security or public safety role or completion of 30 credit hours in a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people.
  • Ability to use a computer to document work.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with all team members, patients, and visitors.
  • Physical requirements to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 35 lbs., and operate firearms.

Qualifications

  • Must successfully pass background investigation, drug screen, pre-placement physical and psychological screening assessment.
  • Must meet State of IL Department of Financial and Professional Regulation licensing requirements and obtain a Firearm Control Card (FCC) within 90 days of hire.
  • Must annually achieve a passing score of 70% or greater on the State of IL Mandatory Annual Active Duty and Retired Officer Handgun Qualification Course of Fire.
  • Probationary Officers must complete range qualification within their 90-day probationary period.

Pay

$24.10 - $36.15 per hour, based on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and/or training.

Schedule

11pm-3am, rotating weekends off and holidays, 40 hours per week.
