General Summary of Position
Ensures a safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors. Patrols hospital property, responds to calls for assistance, reports on conditions, objects, or persons impacting security and/or safety, and responds according to established policies, procedures, and regulations. Mentors and trains security staff. Assumes charge role as needed.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards.
Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
Immediately responds to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers.
Conducts designated security patrols throughout the facility as directed.
May be required to patrol the hospital campus/grounds via security motor vehicle or bicycle.
Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate.
- Serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
- Prepares and submits reports and logs of all incidents, investigations, and activities.
- Provides assistance for way-finding, parking, deliveries, and other requested information for the hospital and MedStar affiliates.
- Responds to security and medical code calls.
- Investigates incidents and accidents.
- Gathers information and evidence.
- Notifies appropriate authorities or superiors and calls for backup assistance as necessary.
- Testifies at legal proceedings, hearings, and trials.
- Works cross-functionally to ensure safe and secure environments.
- Controls access to and inspects packages of those leaving buildings.
- Reports all safety, security, and law violations.
- Captures and secures patient valuables and lost-and-found articles.
- Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
- Responds to circumstances where the exercise of law enforcement authority may be required.
- Interacts with visitors and maintains designated security posts throughout the facility as directed.
- Ensures quality outcomes for the security department by communicating with security staff and the public.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
- Experience: 1-2 years related security or law enforcement experience required or 1-2 years of MedStar service in lieu of security experience required.
- Licenses and Certifications: DL - Valid State Driver's License in good standing required. MD Special Police Commission - MDSPC preferred or Special Police Officer - DC - SPO preferred. If SPO, must satisfy ongoing training requirements to maintain SPO commission in Maryland and/or DC. IAHSS - Certification As A Security Officer preferred. CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required. Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
- Hiring Range: USD $18.70 - USD $32.72 /Hr.
