About the role
This examination is being given to fill 1-2 vacancies in the Sheriff’s Office and to create a referral list for future part-time opportunities. Potential new hires must pass a pre-employment drug screen and an extensive law-enforcement background check as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
- Greet persons entering the office and answer telephones; determine purpose of visit or call; direct persons to appropriate individuals or offices; take and transmit messages; provide general information concerning rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Obtain required information from agency clients and complete forms; assist at the public counter to issue documents.
- Gather, process, and maintain information related to departmental operations, records, and files; screen source material for completeness and accuracy; add, post, or verify notations.
- Format documents, charts, reports, and forms using word processors or other office equipment; edit for punctuation, spelling, and consistency; proofread for accuracy.
- Perform basic computations and calculations; compute, collect, and receipt monies and fees; issue receipts; maintain basic ledgers and accounts; process accounts receivable and make deposits.
- Sort, code, and file correspondence, forms, records, reports, documents, and other materials; search files to obtain requested information.
- Receive, open, sort, time-stamp, route, and weigh mail; address, stuff, seal envelopes, and affix and record postage.
- Operate standard office machines such as copiers, calculators, microfiche readers, computers, multi-line phones, cash registers, and switchboards; may dispatch vehicles.
- Proofread typewritten material; compose routine letters and memoranda; type short items.
Requirements
- One year of general office clerical work.
- Substitution options:
- One year of business training in an approved vocational training program, or
- Completion of 30 semester/45 quarter units at an accredited college or university.

- Visual: Constant good overall vision and reading/close-up work; frequent color perception and eye/hand coordination; occasional depth perception and peripheral vision.
- Hearing/Talking: Frequent hearing of normal speech, telephone use, and in-person conversation.
- Emotional/Psychological: Frequent decision-making, concentration, and public contact.
- Special Requirements: Some assignments may require working weekends, nights, and/or occasional overtime.

Pay
$20.99 - $25.51/hour.
Schedule
Part-time. Limited to 1,559 hours on payroll each calendar year.
