About the Role

The Office Surveyor provides office-based survey support for construction activities by preparing survey calculations, drawings, reports, and as-built documentation. This role maintains survey data, CAD standards, and control records while supporting field operations, engineering coordination, quality requirements, and digital survey technologies, including drone and photogrammetry applications.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs.
  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others in the operational area.
  • Ensures tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.
  • Ensures work methods are planned and executed safely.
  • Draws field sketches and as-built drawings.
  • Supports Field Engineering in preparation of non-conformance reports, Design Change Notices, and Request for Information.
  • Supports coordination and resolution of engineering and construction problems with Superintendents or other project personnel.
  • Reviews project design and engineering documents, models, and model data to ensure completeness and readiness for safe layout and verification.
  • Prepares survey calculations and survey reports for all project disciplines/scope.
  • Supports field and office training programs.
  • Supports measuring and test equipment (M&TE) processes.
  • Supports project weekly/monthly equipment collimation requirements.
  • Supports survey equipment maintenance process and maintains calibration logs.
  • Prepares daily progress reports and periodic photographic progress reports.
  • Utilizes and leverages applicable software and processes.
  • Maintains and processes monitoring and settlement data.
  • Coordinates and maintains survey work requests with survey field personnel or craft professionals.
  • Arranges document control for latest revisions.
  • Validates subcontractor survey submittals.
  • Supports excavation permits and subsurface utility coordination.
  • Supports importing and exporting survey data (CSV, TXT, DWG, DXF, IFC, or field book format).
  • Maintains layer management and CAD standards.
  • Maintains the project survey "As-Built" model.
  • Supports cut/fill analysis between existing and proposed surfaces.
  • Creates survey CAD drawings, including topographic features such as break lines, spot elevations, and contours.
  • Generates Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) and performs volume computations.
  • Administers the survey work request program and survey data.
  • Supports field data inspections of commodity installation readiness (pre-pours and post-pours).
  • Examines the accuracy of field data and collection methods.
  • Provides technical support related to survey to Field Engineering and Superintendents.
  • Maintains project survey control network operation (TS, Level Loops, GNSS).
  • Maintains Part 107 certification and conducts safe and compliant UAS operations.
  • Performs post-flight processing and quality assurance of imagery and photogrammetric data.
  • Supports UAS data management workflows, including uploading datasets to the Propeller platform and maintaining detailed flight logs.
  • Coordinates LAANC airspace authorizations.

Qualifications

  • Engineering/Technical degree and 2-5 years’ experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying, involving a mix of field and office duties with modern instruments and software.
  • Alternatively, 6-9 years’ experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying in lieu of a degree.

Skills

  • Proactively considers continuous learning or shows interest in pursuing appropriate learning activities.
  • Demonstrates full knowledge of field survey operations and/or drones/photogrammetry technical requirements.
  • Maintains Part 107 certification and adheres to pilot checklists.
  • Facilitates the acquisition of photogrammetry or LiDAR datasets.
  • Performs post-flight processing and quality assurance of imagery and photogrammetric data.
  • Supports UAS data management workflows.
