OFFICE ASSISTANT - Northern Urgent Care
About the Role
Northern Regional Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented professional to perform receptionist duties, scheduling, data processing, patient payment collection, and accounts receivable tasks. This role involves verifying current insurance, scanning insurance cards, updating demographics at each visit, and scanning reports to the physician for signature. Additionally, you will research claims for the billing office, assist customers with account payments, and provide a friendly, courteous reception.
Knowledge of care coordination, evidence-based self-management support (e.g., patient coaching, motivational interviewing), population management, and effective communication with diverse patient populations—particularly vulnerable groups—is essential.
Responsibilities
- Perform receptionist duties, including greeting patients and visitors in a professional manner.
- Schedule patient appointments and manage office calendars.
- Process data, collect patient payments, and manage accounts receivable.
- Verify current insurance information and scan insurance cards.
- Update and verify patient demographics at each visit.
- Scan and route reports to physicians for signature.
- Research and resolve claims for the billing office.
- Assist patients with account payment inquiries and concerns.
- Apply knowledge of care coordination and population management to proactively address patient needs.
- Utilize evidence-based approaches (e.g., patient coaching, motivational interviewing) to support self-management.
- Communicate effectively with all segments of the patient population, with a focus on vulnerable groups.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One year of secretarial experience, including filing and general office procedures.
- Experience with personal computers, printers, and word processors (MS Word), either on-the-job or in school.
- Ten-key touch experience.
- Experience meeting the public in a professional office setting.
- Reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Medical office reimbursement or Medicare/Medicaid experience related to field of reimbursement.
- Insurance/billing experience.
- Experience with computerized EMR/Practice Management systems.
- One-year degree or certificate in business or a healthcare-related field.
- Completion of a Medical Terminology course(s).
