Clark County is seeking qualified candidates for the Office Assistant I/II position, which provides a variety of routine to difficult office support to various County and local government offices.
Pay
- Starting salary: $20.00 per hour
- Office Assistant I: $18.23 - $26.87 hourly
- Office Assistant II: $19.66 - $29.03 hourly
The Office Assistant I is a training underfill position; upon successful completion of the training program, the candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Office Assistant II.
Schedule
- Term Limited-Permanent: Hired for a special project or duties of limited duration; eligible for benefits during employment.
- Grant Funded: Employment contingent on availability of grant funds; termination without appeal if funds end.
- Bond Funded: Employment contingent on availability of bond funds; termination without appeal if funds end.
- Permanent-Intermittent: Regular schedule of 20–40 hours per week; paid hourly; benefits prorated based on hours worked.
- Job Share: Two employees share one full-time position (21 hours/week each); sick and vacation leave prorated.
Some positions may be confidential or non-union, excluding membership in the union.
Requirements
- Education and Experience:
- Office Assistant I: High school diploma or equivalent and six months of full-time general clerical, customer service, or related experience.
- Office Assistant II: Meets Office Assistant I requirements and one year of full-time general clerical or customer service experience.
Professional experience/education may substitute year-for-year. All qualifications must be documented in the application.
- Licensing/Certification: Some positions require a valid Nevada Driver’s License at appointment.
- Background Investigation: Employment contingent on successful completion; periodic reinvestigations may occur.
- Citizenship: Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. (Clark County does not sponsor H1B visas).
- Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment contingent on passing a drug examination.
- Typing: Some positions require a net typing speed of 45 wpm.
Responsibilities
- Type, proofread, and prepare correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents from drafts, notes, or brief instructions.
- Enter, edit, and retrieve data; prepare reports using established formats.
- Act as receptionist: screen visitors/calls, provide information, and take messages.
- Maintain records, process forms (e.g., work orders, purchase requisitions), and perform arithmetic calculations.
- Establish and manage office files; research and compile information; purge files as required.
- Review and correct computer-produced/typed reports; operate standard office equipment (e.g., word processors, fax machines).
- Contribute to team efficiency by offering suggestions and participating in work teams.
- Compile meeting materials, prepare agendas, and take summary notes.
- Train and direct temporary staff for special projects.
- Perform office support tasks: distribute mail, process outgoing mail, arrange travel, and prepare purchase requisitions.
- May operate a motor vehicle for County-related travel.
