ODOC – SCI Correctional Corporal Lateral Transfer Request (Salem)
About the role
Santiam Correctional Institution (SCI) Oregon Department of Corrections is seeking a motivated and dedicated Correctional Corporal to join our security team. This role is essential in upholding the mission of the Department by ensuring a safe, secure, and rehabilitative environment for both staff and individuals in custody.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a key member of the security team, providing custody, control, supervision, and daily care of adults in custody (AICs).
- Supervise AICs in various areas, including housing units, control points, program and work assignments, and designated security areas.
- Maintain order and enforce institutional rules.
- Respond to emergencies and critical incidents with professionalism and sound judgment.
- Assist in training and mentoring staff.
Requirements
You must be a current ODOC Correctional Corporal employee to be considered for a lateral transfer request. Lateral transfer requests are posted by institution. Employees requesting a lateral transfer by voluntary demotion from a higher security series classification can do so from this announcement. You must be currently DPSST certified to request a lateral.
Qualifications
The salary range listed above is for non-PERS qualifying applicants. PERS qualifying applicants may be eligible for an adjusted range to reflect an additional 6.95%. The State of Oregon provides a generous benefit package, including:

Process
After the application deadline, a recruiter will review submissions for education and experience to identify candidates who best fit the minimum qualifications and requested skills. Top candidates will be referred to the hiring manager. Interviews will be conducted with a panel of stakeholders who have completed panel assessment training. Scores will be determined based on predetermined questions and scoring guides. Final candidates will have a background check, PREA check, and reference checks. A Classification and Compensation analyst will review the Workday Application of the successful candidate to determine starting wages. A job offer will be extended through Workday to the successful candidate.
