About the role

Inglis enables people with disabilities – and those who care for them – to achieve their goals and live life to the fullest. The Occupational Therapist has the primary responsibility to evaluate, plan, and provide a comprehensive treatment plan aimed at maximizing residents’ independence and quality of life. Evaluates outcomes and makes modifications to the treatment plan as indicated. Demonstrates clinical expertise in the Occupational Therapy process.

Responds to physician consults and provides all services in accordance with physician prescription. Screens residents and determines the need for Occupational Therapy services. Supervises and delegates duties to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant and Rehab aide. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and resident families to ensure the provision of quality care.

Responsibilities

Documentation Skills

• Documents resident treatment and progress on logs and progress notes:
  • Evaluations on chart within 72 hours
  • Daily notes completed on the day of treatment
  • Weekly notes completed within 24-48 hours
• Provides all information needed for billing documentation daily in the billing log, Medicare in the red book, and CMI in the white book.
• Documents on the resident’s plan of care to reflect all current interventions and positioning and/or equipment needs.
• Updates Med B Log to indicate initiation and discharge of therapy (following notification guidelines).
• Completes documentation on the computer for therapy.

Communication/Customer Service Skills

• Communicates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality care is being provided to the residents and that resident goals are being achieved.
• Communicates with physicians to establish treatment plans and to maintain knowledge of residents’ medical status.

Clinical Knowledge

• Screens residents and assesses occupational therapy needs:
  • Screens new admissions within 48-72 hours.
  • Screens according to POC schedule for both annual and quarterly reviews.
  • Screens per referrals within 48-72 hours.
• Plans and implements resident treatment programs and evaluates outcomes.

Educational Responsibilities

• Provides education to residents and family members regarding the use of adaptive equipment, preventative care, and carryover of relevant skills being addressed while on skilled services.
• Provides in-services as indicated on:
  • Splinting needs and wearing schedules
  • Bed positioning
  • Wheelchair positioning and mobility needs
  • ADL set-up to facilitate maximal independence
  • Smoking equipment
  • Adaptive equipment needs

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized and accredited institution is required.
• Current Professional Licensure in the State of Pennsylvania is required.
