About the Role
The Occupational Therapist evaluates and treats patients of all ages, serving as a professional role model and clinical resource for staff and students.
Responsibilities
- Performing patient transfers safely and demonstrating proper body mechanics.
- Designing individualized care plans with treatment goals, outcomes, and discharge strategies.
- Adjusting care based on patient response and current evidence.
- Educating patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
- Evaluating clinical findings to determine diagnoses and treatment outcomes.
- Performing examinations and screening patients to assess therapy needs.
- Utilizing support personnel ethically and legally, monitoring their care, and providing feedback.
- Documenting evaluations, treatment plans, patient responses, and modifications per policies.
- Implementing functional intervention activities considering patients' physical and emotional needs.
- Using standardized outcome measures to reflect functional performance accurately.
- Collaborating with patients, families, and the healthcare team, providing education and family training as needed.
- Supervising Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and technicians according to regulations.
- Communicating patient progress, changes, discharge plans, and equipment needs effectively.
Requirements
- Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Ability to perform transfers, evaluate clinical findings, and adjust care plans.
- Strong communication, teaching, documentation, and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and ethical guidelines.
