About the role
This role is Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays. The Occupational Therapist will service the Dare and Currituck County area. Reliable transportation is required.
Responsibilities
- Accurately provide occupational therapy (OT) evaluations
- Develop and implement OT treatment plans
- Provide education and information
- Participate in required discharge planning
- Complete all required documentation for patients according to hospital and department policies and procedures
- Direct patient participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance
- Facilitate the learning of essential skills and functions for adaptation and productivity
Requirements
- Adhere to established departmental policies and procedures
- Plan a variety of sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities
- Absent a Registered Nurse, perform home health aide supervisory visits to the patient’s home
- Absent a Registered Nurse, assist, assess the relationship of, and/or review care plans
- Absent a Registered Nurse, supervise the Health Aide
- Absent a Registered Nurse, consult with other members of the Comfort Care Team
- Select appropriate activities based on individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest
- Teach patients the skills and techniques required for participation in occupational therapy
- Evaluate patient progress, attitude, and behavior on an ongoing basis
- Prepare reports summarizing the patient's reactions to therapy
- Design and fit adaptive devices such as splints and braces
- Integrate principles of age-specific care into all aspects of practice
- Initiate collaborative interactions with physicians and other hospital staff
- Utilize work time wisely and efficiently, providing appropriate levels of care to patients
- Meet productivity expectations and positively assist the department in achieving financial goals
- Comply with OSHA’s bag technique and trunk supplies protocol
- Utilize hospital laptop while in patient’s home during visits to ensure accuracy of documentation and efficient productivity
- Synchronize hospital laptop twice daily
- Document instructions given to patient, emergency measures received upon admission, plan of care, patient’s response to plan of care, skilled treatments, and interventions
Qualifications
- Minimum Required Education: Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school or a Bachelor’s Degree with 10 years of experience
- Experience: Previous Occupational Therapy experience is preferred, but will accept new graduates
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current licensure in the state of North Carolina, or be license eligible, in addition to having a National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy.
