Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA)

About the role

The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) provides direct occupational therapy care to patients under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT).

Responsibilities

• Implement and follow individualized treatment plans for patients based on physician referrals.
• Chart patient progress accurately and timely, utilizing therapy software.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Assist in patient evacuation and support safe, effective therapy sessions.
• Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and support staff.
• Adhere to all safety, sanitation, and confidentiality standards.
• Participate in community health initiatives as appropriate.

Qualifications

• NBCOT certification required; renewal is optional.
• Graduate of an accredited occupational therapy program (ASOT).
• Current, active license in applicable state.
• CPR certification upon hire or during orientation.
• Preferred: One year of experience; new grads welcome.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
• Strong communication, decision-making, and body mechanics skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Essential Functions

• Demonstrate excellent customer service and professionalism.
• Ensure patient safety and confidentiality at all times.
• Maintain dependable attendance and good judgment in daily tasks.
• Communicate effectively within the interdisciplinary team.
• Perform physical activities required for patient care, including lifting and moving patients.
